Coaches’ Corner

Jacob Feiring

Hello Prospective Athletes!

My name is Coach Jacob Feiring, and I am entering into my second year as head cross country coach at Sage Creek High School. It is a very exciting time to be a part of the cross country team at Sage Creek. Since the beginning, our mission has been to create a premier running program while having lots of fun in the process. This year will be no exception as we build off last year’s success in hopes of earning our first state championship title. If you are interested in participating in cross country, you should know that competitive running is a very challenging yet rewarding experience that will increase your mental and physical toughness. All skill levels are welcome, and no prior running experience is required. Even if running is not your passion, many multi-sport athletes choose to participate in cross country to get in great aerobic shape for winter and spring trimester sports. Get in the best shape of your life and join the cross country team! Hope to see you at practice. Go Bobcat’s XC!

“Success isn’t how far you got, but the distance you traveled from where you started.”

–Steve Prefontaine

Assistant Coach Jamal Brewer

Working ‘lock step’ with Coach Jacob is Coach Jamal, or ‘J-Mal’ as he is also affectionately known. Though Coach Jamal is currently working to complete his Business/Marketing degree at Cal State San Marcos, he makes time to be a very active part in the daily practices of both the cross country and track teams at Sage Creek. Specifically, Jamal is most valued for his sprinting and jumping insights, and is constantly working to create work-outs and drills to improve performance in those areas for our Bobcat teams. Coach Jamal is a locally grown athlete who excelled in football, wrestling and track at Oceanside High School. When asked what he sees running provides for our Bobcat athletes, Coach Jamal didn’t hesitate in saying, “Running has given these kids a sense of community. To run competitively is a way to thrive as an individual, and thus as part of a successful team.” Given the Cross Country Team’s Fall 2014 results, we think it is fair to say that Jamal’s theories on the successful Bobcat team environment definitely have legs! As far as the individual athletes, Coach J-mal “LOVES their work ethic, and LOVES their Bobcat sense of pride. These kids are a family, not just classmates!” Certainly, Sage Creek is fortunate to have a coach like Jamal as part of its family. Go Bobcats!
